Hudelot-Noëllat’s legacy was forged in 1960, when Alain Hudelot married Odile Noëllat, bringing together a collection of exceptional vineyards in the heart of Vosne-Romanée. Since then, the domaine has become renowned for producing consistently outstanding red Burgundies, with a focus on quality and tradition. Their philosophy remains rooted in simplicity: maintaining a high average vine age, practicing organic viticulture, ploughing their vineyards, and ensuring low yields to achieve wines of exceptional concentration and character.
The winemaking is carefully overseen by Alain's grandson, Charles van Canneyt, whose meticulous attention to detail ensures that the élevage is controlled and precise. Fermentation starts naturally and can reach temperatures of up to 32˚C, occasionally including up to 10% stems to add depth and complexity. After malolactic fermentation, the wines are racked and, in keeping with their natural approach, neither fined nor filtered before bottling. The Domaine’s cool, deep cellars house four different tonnelleries, with the majority of barrels being low-toast François Frères. The Grand Cru wines receive up to 100% new oak, while the village-level wines see a balance of one-third new wood and two-thirds for the Premiers Crus, lending richness and structure while preserving the purity of the fruit.
