Elanto Vineyard

Elanto Vineyard is a meticulously designed 10.6-hectare high-density vineyard located in Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula, established in 2019. Conceived by highly acclaimed winemaker Sandro Mosele and his dedicated team, the vineyard represents a bold, forward-thinking approach to viticulture in one of Australia’s most exciting cool-climate wine regions.

Planted at an extraordinary density of 11,000 vines per hectare—more than four times the norm for Australian vineyards—Elanto is designed to significantly reduce individual vine yields to just 300–500 grams per plant. This meticulous approach encourages the vines to channel their energy into fewer, more concentrated berries, resulting in wines of exceptional depth, structure, and power.

The vineyard is farmed with deep respect for the land, adhering to organic principles wherever possible. Thoughtful soil cultivation practices encourage vine roots to delve deep into the site’s volcanic basalt soils, which are rich in iron, stone, and buckshot. These nutrient-dense, well-draining soils contribute both structure and minerality to the wines, while the vineyard’s south-easterly aspect and the cooling influence of prevailing sea breezes help preserve natural acidity and freshness.

This deeply considered and precise approach to viticulture reflects a commitment to producing site-specific wines that authentically express the unique character of Elanto. Every decision—from vineyard layout to farming techniques—is aimed at capturing the essence of this remarkable terroir, yielding wines of purity, complexity, and unmistakable sense of place.
