Domaine La Bouïssière
Founded by Antonin Faravel in the 1960s where he planted vines in the lieu-dit La Grande Bouïssiere which is in the heart of the slope of the Dentelles de Montmirail and at 350 metres above sea level on limestone. Antonin was inspired by the striking and rugged beauty of Gigondas and this fabulous cool site. Up until 1978 his grapes were sold to Pierre Armadieu, his first Domaine vintage was bottled in 1979. Following Antonin’s untimely death his wife and three children, Gilles, Thierry and Josiane took over the family Domaine and continue to this day. They farm their 18 hectares, mostly Gigondas, over three appellations organically, pick and sort the 40-50 year old vines by hand. Some wines are whole-cluster, others partially de-stemmed, this depends on the vintage, plantings are 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre. There’s a cool maceration in concrete at 12°, fement temperature is limited to 28° and ageing in fourdre and tank except for the Le Font de Tonin which is matured in second and third use Taransaud, Rousseau and Chassin barriques.
