Domaine Sérafin was founded by Stanislaus Sérafin in 1947, with his son Christian taking over the domaine in 1988. A reserved son of a Polish immigrant, Christian has now passed the reins to his daughter Karine and his niece Frédérique. Together, they manage a stunning collection of exceptional vineyards that produce Côte de Nuits reds marked by intense flavor and a robust structure, effortlessly able to embrace a significant amount of new oak. The concentration of fruit from their low yields, paired with a tendency to harvest late, means that these wines are perfectly suited to a more substantial oak regime. Rich, powerful, and well-balanced with tannin and acidity, they are wines that benefit from extended cellaring, typically needing at least a decade before reaching their peak.
The estate’s vineyards are farmed according to biological principles, with no regular use of systemic herbicides or pesticides. Their winemaking process is both straightforward and natural, carried out in open fermenters with no artificial yeasts or enzymes. The wines are never racked until just prior to bottling, and they are neither fined nor filtered. The oak regime is a key element in their style, with barrels from two renowned tonnelleries - François Frère and Taransaud—used exclusively, and the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru wines all aged in 100% new oak, contributing to their complex, age-worthy character.
